SUMMER is just around the corner, which means it’s time to get your rig into shape to hit the beach on the weekends.

While it can be daunting, there are a number of gadgets to help kickstart, motivate and track your transformation. Here are your best three options:

1. FITBIT VERSA — $299

Fitbit has returned with a fresh design that could easily be worn by both men and women.

The Versa uses the same square watch face as Apple, with curves around the edges to offer a softer appearance.

While it’s only available in a single size, the default case and silicone strap has three different combinations including a black aluminium case and strap, a rose gold case with a peach strap, and a silver case with grey strap — you can also purchase other bands for an additional cost.

The 1.34-inch touchscreen is bright and clear, and has a resolution of 300 by 300 pixels.

Fitbit gives the option to select from a myriad customisable clock faces to meet your own personal tastes, but sadly you will not get the edge-to-edge display of the Apple Watch with the Versa containing a small amount of bezel.

You can expect to get around four days battery life out of the product, with it charging from empty to full in around two hours.

If you’re buying a Fitbit, chances are you’re not using just for its ability to tell you the time.

The Versa obviously measures you daily steps, but it can also record over 15 different exercise modes including cycling, interval training and weight sessions.

And given it’s waterproof up to 50 metres, you can also record swimming.

If you need extra motivation, you can set personalised reminders to ensure you to stay active and hydrated or stick to a sleep schedule — the Fitbit also provides information on how you sleep.

There is also the option to use the Fitbit Coach app, which provides you with video tutorials available to guide you through a series of essential workouts.

It’s worth noting the coach will only offer a few free sample workouts, with users wanting more personalised workouts having to pay for the service.

2. SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH — $649

media_cameraThe Samsung Galaxy Watch is the company’s first to feature its own mobile connection to work independently of a smartphone.

The Galaxy Watch is Samsung’s latest foray into the wearable space that is compatible with both iOS and Android phones — unlike Apple Watch which is just iOS.

Users have the choice between a larger 46mm version or a smaller 42mm watch, with the both models available in Midnight Black, Silver and Rose Gold.

The upper body of the watch is aluminium, while the underside is made from plastic.

There is a rotating bezel which doubles navigation on the watch — rotating right will allow you to see your widgets and left will allow you to access notifications.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch’s premium build continues to it’s always-on display, which is vibrant and offers amazing viewing angles.

There is also an internal NFC antenna for Samsung Pay.

Both models of the watch run on Samsung’s easy to learn Tizen software, with an automatic fitness tracker that works within a minute of starting a workout — the watch has GPS built in so you can rest easy knowing it’s accurately recording workout distance too.

For those who like to go in the water, the watch has IP68 dust and water resistance and pressure testing has shown the gadget is good down to 50 metres.

Like other smartwatches, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch has a sleep tracking feature, which offers a breakdown of how much time you spend snoozing and the different sleep states.

The smaller model has a 270mAh battery, while the larger model has an impressive 472mAh battery — more than enough for a couple of days wear.

Samsung has also added cellular version to give people the freedom to leave both their smartphone and wallet at home.

3. APPLE WATCH 4 — $599

The tech giant has completely revamped its Apple Watch, with the redesign hoping to make people more active and connected.

Offered in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm, the watch retains the original iconic design but offers a 30 per cent larger display.

The Apple Watch Series 4 has been updated with health capabilities, including an improved accelerometer and gyroscope, which are able to detect hard falls, and an electrical heart rate sensor that can take an electrocardiogram (ECG) using the new ECG app.

The speaker on the device is 50 per cent louder, while the microphone has been relocated to reduce echo for better sound quality.

Apple has included automatic workout detection, with advanced features for runners like cadence and pace alerts.

The watch allows activity sharing with friends and monthly challenges for added motivation.

Users can also listen to their favourite podcasts on the go with Apple Podcasts on Apple Watch, and stream any podcast in the catalogue by using Siri.
