General Mobile is a popular smartphone company with a presence in several European, Asian, and African countries. While you may not have heard of phones from General Mobile competing against popular flagships, the company does have a good portfolio of budget and mid-range devices, several of which leverage either Android One or Android Go for their OS. This makes them good budget devices with a clean OS solution, free from the usual bloatware that is seen in this price range.
The General Mobile GM8 was launched in early 2018 to be a part of General Mobile’s phone portfolio. The device features humbling specifications such as a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS LCD, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC, and RAM and storage options of 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. The main highlight of the device was that it ran on Android One and came with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, later updated to Android 8.1 Oreo.
Now, the device has begun receiving its Android Pie update. While this by itself may not be exciting, it is important to note that this is an inexpensive device that was launched last year for a price of about $190 at launch. You can now find the phone at much lower prices in regions where it is sold, make it a good deal for people who prefer a simple, no-hassle phone that still gets the job done, and has the latest Android update too.
If you haven’t received the Android Pie update on your General Mobile GM8, you can sideload the update by downloading the official OTA package from this link.
