Louisville went on the road and picked up a big ACC win on Monday night, defeating Virginia Tech 72-64. You know that by now. Before we fully turn our attention to Saturday’s game against Florida State, I wanted to get some film review posted from this most recent game. And if you don’t like it, well, I am giving you the Chris Mack shoulder shrug.

Quick Hitters

-This was a complete team effort and while I don’t want to just give out all of the stats, because you probably know them by now, some guys certainly deserve recognition.

-Ryan McMahon was in the zone, to say the least. It’s always impressive to me when a guy who shoots that well can still get open enough to get his shot off. It doesn’t mean the defense was bad, but that the shooter works to get open and doesn’t just stand around waiting for the ball. It also means he has incredible range and will pull from 25 feet. He certainly has games where he struggles because of his size, but this was not one of them. He came up huge.

-Dwayne Sutton continues to be the man, that’s the best way I can describe him. We love him anyway because of the amount of hustle that he plays with, but he can also shoot and finish at the rim? Kind of unfair. He had 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. That’s doing some of everything, and that’s exactly how he plays. He does whatever it takes to win.

-CC had 6 assists and only 1 turnover and continues to be one of the most important players on this team. Some could argue that it’s Sutton, and I get that. But it’s CC for me.

-Our big guys did a good job of hedging on screens and recovering to their man down low. I don’t think we gave up any easy buckets because of it.mi

-I had no problem with Chris Mack’s halftime interview. I think halftime or in-game interviews are kind of ridiculous anyway. A coach is in the heat of the moment and on his way to talk to his team, and in that case, the Cards had given up a pretty big lead and things weren’t going so well. So I never have a big issue if the coach isn’t exactly Mr. Nice Guy at that moment.

-How fun has this season been so far? Just think about it. We didn’t expect to be THIS good right now. Enjoy the ride. This has been awesome.

Film Review

Not a whole lot from this game, which is kind of weird since it was pretty exciting. There just were not a lot of nuances to point out. Some defensive lapses because I can’t help myself, and then a beautiful set play that I like to include anytime I see it. As always, thanks for checking it out.
