Important announcement for all last-minute gift shoppers: the most ~romantic~ holiday of the year is basically here, which means your time to come up with cute, creative Valentine’s Day gift ideas is rapidly ticking away. Sure, you can go with the old procrastinator’s standby — frantically searching the aisles of a drug store for a slightly smushed box of chocolates or an oversized teddy bear — but if you want to really wow your partner, why not put some more thought into their V-Day gift?
“Finding the perfect gift on Valentine’s Day can be filled with pressure,” Jaye, an astrologer at Gifted Astrology, tells Bustle. “If you’ve been together for 20 days or 20 years, trying to find the right gift to express how you feel about your loved one can be daunting. Shopping by Sun Sign preferences can almost feel like you’ve performed a magic trick because your crush may be amazed at how well you ‘get’ them. It gives you a completely new starting place for shopping [and] it can open you up to a new approach on gift giving.”
Trying to plan the perfect Valentine’s date and get the perfect gift for your partner can be intimidating, but as long as you’re planning the day with your partner in mind, there’s no reason to feel worried. If you have no idea what to get for your partner this Valentine’s Day and need a little guidance from the stars, here are some astrology-based gift ideas that will feel both personal and romantic.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): Active Gear, A Weekend Adventure Away, Tickets To A Rock Concert
It might not sound like the most romantic thing ever, but for active Aries, any gift that’s activity-related is sure to please. “Aries are the most active signs, so workout clothes, a gift certificate for a personal trainer or a weekend adventure will always be welcome,” Jaye says.
Or, if working out isn’t your partner’s thing, consider gifting them anything that brings them a feeling of power. Aries loves the feeling of strength, Linda Furiate, an astrologer who specializes in relationships, tells Bustle. “[Gift Aries] a new power tool, tickets to a classic rock concert, or grant them one wish to spend a whole day doing whatever they want with (or to) you.”
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Massage Oils, Silk Pajamas, A Bottle Of Vintage Wine
For Taurus, all things lavish and luxe make a great V-Day gift. “Taurus likes the finer things in life and even when the gift is small, if it’s nice quality, it will be appreciated by your Taurus,” Jaye says. “Expensive massage oils, perfume or silk pajamas can get them in the mood for love.”
Or, if massage oils don’t seem like enough and you want to really treat your Taurus partner, opt for a gift certificate to a spa and a nice bottle of wine. “Taurus appreciates the art of touch and enjoys receiving gifts that appeal to their sense of value,” Furiate says. “[Get them] a massage at a trendy new day spa, a rare bottle of vintage wine or the latest video game or film to add to their collection.”
Gemini (May 21 – June 20): A Tablet Pre-Loaded With Books, A Documentary On Their Favorite Subject, A Subscription To Netflix
The intellectual Gemini will love any Valentine’s Day gift that teaches them something new. “Geminis are all about information — the more, the better,” Jaye says. “Give your Gem a book or documentary DVD on their favorite subject and you’ll have plenty to discuss with your Valentine.”
If you want to spend a little more money, getting Gemini an e-reader that’s pre-loaded with lots of interesting books will be sure to make them swoon. “Gemini will enjoy a Kindle or tablet filled with a few mind-opening books, a new cell phone or accessory, or a subscription to Netflix,” Furiate says. “Geminis are always looking for ways to communicate with friends and to share their thoughts.”
Cancer (June 21 – July 22): A Cookbook, Cozy Pajamas, An Antique Or Heirloom With A Significant Meaning
For Cancer, the best gifts aren’t necessarily new and shiny: “Cancer is a nostalgic sign, so an antique or heirloom with a significant meaning will knock their socks off on Valentine’s Day,” Jaye says.
They also love the comforts of home, so any gift that will allow them to get cozy or spruce up their living space will be appreciated. “Cancers love the familiar and snuggling up with those close to them all from the comforts of home,” Furiate says. “[Good gifts might be] a kitchen gadget or cookbook, a warm pair of slippers and soft and cozy PJs, or a collage of family photos from a recent gathering.”
Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22): Tickets To An Exclusive Event, A Dozen Roses, A Groupon For A Hair Appointment
If your partner is a Leo, you’re better off going big on a day like V-Day — because they love a romantic gesture. “Leos love big, colorful gestures on Valentine’s Day,” Jaye says. “Get them tickets to the hottest, most exclusive event in town and you’ll make memories that last a lifetime.”
If it’s too late (or pricey) to get Leo some hard-to-come-by tickets, you can’t go wrong with a romantic dinner or a dozen beautiful roses instead.
“[Get] Leo a Groupon for highlights and [a] fun new hair style, a romantic candle lit dinner for two that each share in the preparation, or a dozen red or yellow roses — red to convey your love and yellow to convey that your partner is the sunshine that lights up your world,” Furiate says.
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22): A Meal Kit Subscription, A Gym Membership, A List Of Tasks You Want To Help Them With
The practical Virgo can be hard to shop for, especially because they’re such good gift-givers themselves. “Virgos are very thoughtful people and thoughtful gift givers,” Jaye says. “They’ll love a treat that they may not get for themselves but they can integrate into their schedule — a magazine subscription, gym membership or gourmet meal deliveries.”
You don’t necessarily need to get Virgo something material: simply making a list of chores or projects you’re willing to help them with will bring them happiness. Furiate suggests making a to-list of tasks you can help them with or running shoes. “Virgos love to be productive and focus on their health,” Furiate says.
Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22): Tickets To A Museum Opening, Scented Candles, A Classy Piece Of Jewelry
On Valentine’s Day, artsy Libra would love anything that makes them feel cultured. “Libras can appreciate the arts and exclusivity,” Jaye says. “Tickets to a museum opening, private concert or box seats to a sports event could be the perfect way to say ‘I love you.'”
If your Libra partner is more of a “things” person than an “experiences” person, a nice candle or piece of jewelry is sure to tickle their fancy, too.
“Valentine’s Day may have been invented for lovely Libra who delights in the more traditional sharing of romantic gifting with their partner,” Furiate says. “[Gift them] scented candles, a classy piece of jewelry that need not be expensive, or a box of fine chocolates.”
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): A Book On Conspiracy Theories, Dinner Reservations At A Private Place, A Mystery Novel
The enigmatic Scorpio can be hard to shop for, but don’t be afraid to get them something that’s as out-of-the-box as they are. “Scorpios are known for enjoying the mysteries of life,” Jaye says. “A book on occult topics or conspiracy theories will get their wheels turning — about the gift and the gift giver.”
Whatever you do, don’t get Scorpio something that will make them the center of attention, because they prefer to keep their love life private. “Scorpio tends to be intensely passionate yet are quite shy,” Furiate says. “They prefer to show and share their love in a more private setting. [Get Scorpio] a good mystery novel, anything red that evokes passion such as a single red rose, or dinner reservations for two at a romantic, secluded hideaway or in a private area of a rustic restaurant.”
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): High-End Luggage, Tickets To A Motivational Speech, An Extended Weekend Trip To A Nearby City
The jet-setting Sagittarius is always down for a new adventure, so if plane tickets are in the budget, that’s a no-brainer gift. “Sagittarius lives for adventure and travel so set them up for their next journey with a piece of high-end luggage, a super stylish carry on bag or tickets for two to anywhere!” Jaye says.
As long as your gift gives them an amazing story to tell later, Sag will be sure to love it. “Sag loves the thought of anything grand, the bigger and more outrageous the better,” Furiate says. “Their real desire is to share their story about their over the top love adventure, so no need for perfection. [They might like] a bottle of wine for every month or year of your romance, an extended weekend trip to the city shared with a hilarious group of friends, or tickets to a lecture for their favorite motivational guru.”
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): A Spiritual Book, A Bottle Of Scotch, A Quiet Dinner With Family
For Capricorn, the best gifts are those that are simple but still deeply thought-provoking. “Capricorns enjoy elegant, classic gifts but sometimes we forget that classics can include spirituality,” Jaye says. “Get your Cappy a book on a spiritual topic to get them inspired by something outside their usual work cycle.”
They also love anything steeped in tradition, so a gift that reminds them of their friends or family will be the most romantic. Furiate suggests a 50-year-old bottle of their grandpa’s scotch or a quiet dinner with their parents.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): A Gaming Console, A Book Of Mind Teasers, An Accessory That Supports Their Go-To Hobby
Aquarius can have some quirky interests, and they’ll find it super romantic if you show support for some of their more niche hobbies. “Aquarius will always have an unusual hobby or two that they enjoy,” Jaye says. “Get them an accessory that supports their hobby and you’ll have an instant connection and conversation point to something they love.”
When in doubt, get a gift that will stimulate Aquarius’ mind and get them thinking. “Aquarius love high-tech gadgets that stimulate their intellect,” Furiate says. “Gift ideas would include a gaming system or complex video game, or any book that includes brain games, mind teasers and how the Universe works.”
Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20): Meditation Classes, A Reflexology Session, A Hulu Subscription
Thoughtful, spiritual Pisces loves to pamper themselves, so a great gift is anything that allows them to soothe their soul/body. “A great present for a Pisces will be something that encourages self care — meditation classes, a personal retreat weekend, or a trip somewhere near the water to lull their artistic soul to the next level of love,” Jaye says.
Pisces is also a hopeless romantic who loves to feel in touch with the universe, so a V-Day gift like yoga classes or a reflexology session will help them connect with the universe and themselves. “Pisces yearns to be one with the energy of the universe or nature,” Furiate says. “To those more grounded souls, their wish is to feel the simplicity of life. [Gift them] yoga or tai chi classes, a reflexology session, or a subscription to Hulu so they may watch every romantic movie ever made.”
When it comes to gift-giving, it’s not the what that’s important — it’s the why. The secret to giving a great Valentine’s gift is simple: pick out something with your partner in mind, and they’ll be sure to keep swooning all the way until next V-Day.
